"FISHABLE LAKES"
« on: Jan 11, 2012, 06:43 PM »
THIS IS FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT INSIST ON ASKING WHERE THERE IS SAFE ICE OR FISHABLE ICE IN NY. As I stated this is for "fishable ice" as i am not telling people what lakes are safe, but what lakes are being fished. one person might feel comfortable on 2-3" and others not till 4+". this is all from past posts that i have read, and if i happen to miss a lake, pond or frozen mudpuddle that holds fish feel free to add it. ;D

Oneida- no ice
otsego- no ice
canadarago lake-claimed reports of 2-3"
youngs lake 3+"
caroga lake(east) 6+"(west) reports of 4" with spots of open water
Great Sacandaga-mayfield end 2"north hampton 3" and northville 4" the main lake has only been froze for 3-4 days so not sure out there!!
lake pleasant 3+" many guys fishing this past sunday(1/8)
Sacandaga(speculator) personally measured 5" west of the boat luanch was open water!
lewey lake saw somewhere people fishing 3+"
indian lake no safe ice yet
adirondak lake 7+"
blue mountain no safe ice yet
long lake not sure
lake eaton many guys have been fishing! 4+"
tupper lake some guys have been fishing it.
simon pond gotta have close to 8" by now
lake george no safe ice
brant some areas have fishable ice, othere spots not.
scroon haven't seen any reports of safe ice
saratoga some ice, don't think anyone has been on it
lake champlain not sure
delta lake guys have been on the back side on 3" main lake still sketchy
and the st. lawrence river has 10" and guys are fishing along with black lake!!!

if anyone has anything to add feel free.

As with all lakes, you fish them at your own risk.  bring a spud bar to test the ice infront of you.  Especially this year. really wacky ice conditions out there.

long lake is being fished
raquette pond has close to a foot
north end of champlain is being fished
If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 36 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might live in northern New York

Having driven in the neighborhood of 48 hours scouting and/or traveling to ice, Im not giving any handouts  ;D  Plus, you're assuming people will read this thread, as with the 100 others reporting ice.  You know it's much easier to just put a new post asking if lake (x) is fishable, too much work reading through your list.  ;D  I do like the all caps title though, nice touch!!!

However, you did forget to add which lakes you can drive your atv or car on.... can you get on that next?   ;D
I gotta cook these guys lunch everytime we're out to get any info outta them. ;D
I get my reports via text from two of the craziest ice nuts I've met. (Thanks guys'  ;) ) Prchslyr would disappear even longer if I ever gave up one of their reports.

in all serious though, i am not telling anyone to go marching out on any of these lakes and your safe. take the time to check things out on your own and for everyone to be safe. if anyone has an update or something usefull on a lake feel free to help the less fortunate out :P
