went back out on the south end of Dunmore today. had it all to myself. after a while my Dad joined me and we ended up jigging up a load of small perch and pumpkinseeds. dad even landed a 28 inch pike that took his little panfish jig. i got the whole thing on video but haven't put it onto my computer yet. 5 3/4 inches of ice. at some points during the day the fish were very picky, at others they raced up to grab the jig before it even reached them. saw one (maybe two) other pike on the under water camera but no bites from them. even though all the perch we caught were small we still took a bunch home.

lots of small sunnies

dads pike

the jig he caught it on

what we took home

some people may say its impossible to get boneless fillets from 5 and 6 inch perch. well i disagree. haha

I actually witnessed a walleye being caught on Dunmore maybe 5 years ago out in the middle about half way between Branbury and Waterhouses, in 70 fow. I couldn't believe it. I'm guessing it was 7-8#. I assumed somebody had dumped one in there at some point and that it was just a fluke. Seems like it has ideal habitat for 'eyes though. Would be great if there was a fishable population in there.
Ice fishing is a social activity that may occasionally be interrupted by the catching of fish.

Hey swamp, I think I saw you and your dad the other day at field sports buying up the store, guess it was Wednesday. Nice work, I haven't fished dunmore yet through the ice.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there would be a shortage of fishing poles.

Eggs are tasty! Pan fry them and press them flat, for the bigger ones cut then in half- cook until they're crispy on the edges. This is how we've always done it

wash the roe in cold water then boil the small egg roe sacks for 2 minutes in water with 1 Tbs of salt and 1 Tbs of either lemon juice or vinegar, roll in seasoned flour, then fry them up! reminds me of whole belly clams.

after watching many youtube videos of cleaning fish i have come up with my own method for cleaning particularly small perch. this way if all i can catch are dinks i can still bring back a bunch of 4 to 6 inch perch and get boneless fillet's from them all. might not make a big meal but makes a tasty plate of appetizers. if anyones wants to know how to do it ill make a video sometime. its really not too hard and nothing special.

Let me just say, If you like completely BONELESS fillets, on ANY size perch, in my opinion the only way to go is an electric knife! most any electric knife will do. All you do is cut straight down by the gills, turn the knife 90 degrees and run it paralell to the cutting board straight to the tail of the fish, leave the skin in tact with the fish and flop the fillet over, then use the electric to pull the meat off the skin. If you do it right you end up with two fillets with ribs in them from each fish, and the carcass with two flaps of skin hanging off it. just cut out the bones and your done. Honestly just try this guys and you will never go back. Ill try to make a video some time too.
