Yeah they stocked 500 lakers that were about 24 inches in granite and 500 in crystal this september/october. Have only seen a couple pictures of them being caught so I couldn't tell you how big they are now

It has probably been a Smörgåsbord for them since they were put in there. Once they get some of their major foodsources eaten they'll probably be easier to catch.  ;D

i pulled one out that was 24" and 6-6.5lbs. had one snap me off about the same size. ive seen a total of 4 come out and none have been over 25" or 7lbs the smallest was 22" and about 5lbs. saw some rainbows that made my laker look small!!!!! we have caught them from 6 fow to 14 fow. i think they are a lot like the brooder rainbows....so in other words fish something big and shiny and soon enough one will come in and wack your spoon. i dont think you will find them in 20fow+ just yet i think they are cruising shallow.

Best method I see working is using sucker meat or earth worms on a tube jig or spoon.  The color might vary so it will take some trial and error.  Also the deeper water you can find the better.  Lackers usually follow a water column which changes in the winter and can typically range from 12 ft to 60.  Most of the time deeper water is more effective although harder to fish.

ya i didnt mark one in over 14 fow. we saw most the big fish cruising shallow. i was fishing in 14 fow and i marked a big fish 4 ft down......i told my buddy one came through at about 4 ft and he reeled up his spoon and sure enough he ends up catching a 24" laker.

All of the lakers we have been seeing have been shallow.  I think in a lake they have been in for years you would find them deep, but they are a recent addition to the Gowdy res.  They do not know how to act like wild lakers.  Same goes for bait.  When one shows up get your jig in their face.  About opportunity more than presentation.

We were fishing the rocky point just east of the dam in 10 fow and had one cruise by under our holes about 3 feet below the ice. Probably a 26" fish and 5-6 lbs. We were all geared light and the fish wasn't interested in our little gill pills and demon spoons.

They have a cool hatchery at Saratoga and several runs with lakers.  It is a cool place to take the kids and have them see all those nice fish. None that they showed us exceeded 8 to 10 lbs. The water is like 4 feet deep so good point on not knowing what deep water is all about.  They will seek that water when ice is off and the shallows start to warm.

I'm good with the Lakers being put in, but not sure of F&G's reasoning behind it ???  These 2 lakes are primarily put and take fishing so it would seem to me that the lakers are going to eat a bunch of the stockers (which I'm also fine with, in fact, I hope they feed them very well  >:D).  I know there are a lot of stunted perch, do they expect the lakers to feed on those or is there a sucker problem I am not aware of in these lakes or ?  I have caught suckers at N. Crow (and understand that's why the splake are there) but I haven't caught one at Granite or Crystal.  What do you guys think?

STAY SHALLOW!  Ive been fishing this lake since you could barely walk on the ice. Lots of trial and error but we have them pinned, i believe. 6-7 fow and even then they will come in right under the ice. also try red and white lipstick jigs. We also have had more luck dead jigging and letting the fish do all of the work. And yes, from what i've seen, the big lakers are nice at about 10 lbs. but I saw a rainbow in there  that was sick huge. Easily 12+. so fish shallow and put in your time, things will happen.
