hand held prtable fish finders
« on: Dec 29, 2011, 10:56 AM »
Hey everyone hope the holidays are treating everyone well..Has anyone had any luck with the handheld fishfinders like they have at harbor freight. I saw one for 49 $ and was wondering if it was worth even buying. I want to get a cheap finder for just depth and fish. Thought it was a good deal if it actually works.

I was going to ask the same question at some point.
Though I figured maybe with these things the "you get what you pay for" statement may apply.
Next time you go to cwood let me know how many fish you didnt catch.

I have an older Vexilar that I still carry around with me to check depth.  It's probably 8 years old or so, takes 1  9 volt battery.  I love it to quickly check depth .   I'll carry some water in a bottle splash it on the ice and it will read right through.  Best thing is the portability.   I keep it in the inside pocket of my jacket on really cold days, and it works perfectly.    I also checked it against my SHOWDOWN and it is very accurate  ;)
I wouldn't use it to find fish, only find the drop offs you're looking for.
