whats your auger mix? ratio and addatives
« on: Dec 27, 2011, 06:15 PM »
My eskimo runs 50:1 so I fill a 1 gal gas can with ethanol free 91 octane gas and 2.5 oz of quaker state 2 stk oil.. Than I add 1 oz of Seafoam to that gallon. Top it off with splash of stabil.... THe stabil bottle says 1 oz will treat 2.5 gals of gas so I just put a splash into the gallon... Than at the end of the season I dump th remaining gas into the truck..Usually 2 gallons of gas will get me through the season with leftovers at the end.

what is everyone else running?

I can't afford to use cheap lubricant, for many reasons. I use Amsoil Sabre at 100:1, no wear, no smoke, no fouling and no puking black snot out the exhaust. Ethanol free, 87 octane or above. My Eskimo Mako has never failed, nor has the weed whacker or chain saw. That's what this oil was designed to be run at, 100:1. Amsoil also has a stabilizer, for those who think it's needed.

I run my strike master with Amsoil Sabre Pro at 80:1 plus everything else I've got.  The outboard has the Amsoil outboard version at 50:1.  I wouldn't put any other additives in until at the end of the season.

what are the benefits of running leaner than what the manufacturer says you should run? What differnces in perfomance do you notice when running leaner?

Synthetic oils are different than dyno oils, meant to protect better and a higher ratio. Better starting, smoother running, less to no smoke, no black crud....

I run mine to what jiffy recommends, 40:1 with there oil that has fuel stabilizer in it with 87 octane no ethanol. Also with a little stabil. Starts fine runs great no smoke and no sludge out of pipe. I have no reason to not do it that way.

When a manufacturer recommends 40/1 or 50/1 it is based on their recommended oil.
It's the oil itself that determines the mixture. Some of the better oils have far better lubricating properties & can be mixed leaner.
I use Amsoil Sabre Professional mixed at aprox. 80/1 in both my chainsaws & auger.
Once I finish up my marine 2 stroke oil my boats will be going to a Amsoil product also.

Living proof that "beer builds better bellies"

I switched to the Amsoil Saber 2 years ago and I run it as specified at 100:1 in a 1996 Jiffy TEC-300 8" Legend Lightning and in my 1987 Eskimo TEC-300 10" Shark, Both motors have never run better ! I have been able to tune both augers to the point where I start them, blip the throttle a couple of times, lay them on the handles and walk away ! They don't stall, they don't chug, cough or spit, they just run, I'd like to see someone try that with one of the newer augers !!  ;)2 :roflmao: Between the Saber oil and the Amsoil quickshot fuel stabilizer, All of my small engines run So Much Better, Fill them with fuel and run them, end of story !!

Saber 100:1 in my Nils.  Purrs like a kitten at idle and sounds like a hive of angry bees at throttle.

I run Amsoil Sabre mixed 80:1 in plain old 87 octane regular "with up to 10% ethanol" in my Jiffy without issue. The built in stabilizers in the Sabre kept my gas fresh all summer and the auger fired up first pull this fall. I'm sure the ethanol in the fuel will come back to haunt me at some point though....
A bad day of fishing beats anything else I'd be doing today.....

TruFuel 40:1.....no BS ethanol and synthetic oil pre mixed off the shelf.

Dem Coonass bros down Louisiana know how to make em some gasoline, fo sho.

Never in a million years would I ever trust any yankee ass liberal company north of the gulf states to give me real gasoline.  Liberals are the devil, and so is ethanol.
