Find a farm pond and put a big trap in there, or cut a big hole and use a drop net.

did you put it at are spot

No, I am trying the pond by my house I told you about. Not even sure if there are any bait fish in there. I am gonna try our pond this weekend.

I went to check the trap after school today and got nothing. I am trying a different spot on the pond now. Hope i'll have better luck this time.

Drill a hole as big as your net. Drop your net down. Create a chum slick (bread, dogfood) in the water. Wait a little while then haul the net up. If there are any baitfish in the pond you should be able to get them.

nothing special i have traped suckers in every type of trap homemade and the store bought cylinder traps. bore your holes out some on the cylinder traps if you are looking for good size suckers.

They make and sell what is called an " UNBRELLA - NET ", it is about  three or four foot square. hole in ice needs to be bigger, lower to bottom, bate with bread what, then lift up quickly, these at times to catch smelts.

Yea the traps sure paid for themselves but its still a bunch of crap, all red fin shiners too, never caught anything else....is that common?

I just didnt know if the redfins were common or not, i always used to buy bait and this is (was, currently no traps because they got stolen) my first year trapping. I never saw redfins at the local bait shop, then the first time i pulled my trap i said...HUH??? Thats all i had in it and ever caught. Do they work as good you think? Im guessing it depends on the fish targeted?

redfins are wonderful bait for bass/ pike and everything else im sure in my opinion anyway. i have also never seen them at a bait shop either. i think the resoning is because alot of baitshops buy there shiners wholesale from fish farms. maybe redfins are harder to mass produce and grow in a non natural enviorment.

I think everyone is so dead set on shiners for bait, that it doesn't occur to them that there are lots of other types of bait fish that they can use.
