« on: Dec 09, 2011, 09:16 AM »
So I finely cough sumthing worth talking about at the state lakes in Fremont but I'm not sure if it was a pike or a musky the pattern on it had vertical stripes. Can't figure out how to post the pic I took. Any help would be nice thank you

look in the help and FAQs page for how to post pics, and since it has vertical stripes I don't think its a pike, and I've never seen a musky in person to tell you its one.

I know they stock Musky in one of those lakes, but can't remember which one.  How's the ice over there??  Looking for somewhere to get my fix this weekend.

That pic did help and it looks more like the one on top it was only 20inches but it put up a good fight. I was fishing lake 7-8 12foot of water about 5 1/2 inches of ice but I stayed close to the shore didn't wanna press my luck

When you see them in real life, apart from the color the thing that jumps out to me is the head.  The features on the head of a musky make it look more like a machine than a pike.
Where's the ice

very small pike can have spots that connect to make stripes but muskies have bars, hope this helps

It took me for ever to figure out how to post the pic. He was just a little guy but still fun to catch. Went out expecting to catch gills and got this instead

The underside of the jaw of a northern pike has five or fewer pores, while the underside of the jaw of a muskie has six or more pores.  This is the simplest way....since color / patterns tend to differ in lakes depending on latitude, minerals, etc.  Pickerel, Pike, musky, muskellunge...can get kind of confusing.  I was looking at pix from fall fishing at Bitter and noticed one of my "pike" was musky.  Ooops.

What lake and method did you catch the little guy on?

STRIKELITE 4-STROKE, POLARIS 800 X2, OTTER OUTDOORS, FL-12, FORD F-150, ST. CROIX, HERITAGE LAKER AND FRABILL THERMAL TIPUPS, STRIKEMASTER BIBS AND PARKA, MR BUDDY, LOWRANCE H2O, AQUA VIEW XL, MARCUM PANNING TRIPOD, AND FATTIES.
