One more question, In general how long does the ice stay good on boxbutte through Feb.?  All depending on the weather of coarse!
may their be holes in your ice and fish in your holes

Fish i will also be there tomorrow. We are kinda winging this whole thing. Trying to locate some smelt or something for bait. We will be coming from wheatland. Any suggestions for bait shops in crawford or scotsbluff.

Al, There's a shop in crawford on the bait shop section here. There's also one south of Hay Springs and one in Alliance that has smelt and should have some live bait if they haven't sold out. The Hudson Ave Bait shop. Smelt are $2 a bag and Minnows are $3 for a doz of 2 1/2 to 3 inchers.

One time I was fishing Pathfinder and my company truck had Colorado plates and I got the "Greenies go home" salute. So now that I am back in my home state do I need to shout out " Cowboys go home?"  Just kidding, good luck out there.

Hello and Happy New Year
I am looking for some information about Boxbutte? Is there any motels within 30 miles of the lake? If not how close are the closest ones? Where would be the closest place to the lake to get an out of state license and fishing regs?
Thanks for any info.
Fort Robinson has tags and regs, lic there are motels here in Crawford reasonable rates too!

Drove up to Box Butte for the first time today, and had a blast.  Fishaholictaz and I got there around 10 and fished until 330 or so.  While the action was never really hot and heavy we landed a number of Pike (18"-27") on tip ups (frozen smelt) and also landed a few quality Gills, Perch and Crappie.  Panfishing was one here one there but they were generally nice sized.  Weather was beautiful as well.  Cheers, Chris

Make sure you read the rules,

7) a)The length is "as the fish lays" - not by squeezing the tail. The entry is measured from the furthest point to
the rear (tail) and front (lip). No open jaw .. if open measured from shortest point at head.(usually upper lip)

Next week looks great to make more ice, 2 degrees for 4 nights in a row followed by 2 nights at 6 degrees. Anyone have a current ice report?

Does a guy need to  buy a Ne parks permit to fish and camp at the lake?  I'm know there is a campground that is a fee area but what about the west end or hunters pt.  is that a pay area?

When you enter at hunters point there are state signs so I'm pretty sure that you need to purchase the day permit or yearly permit.

you do need a nebraska park entry permit to enter anywhere on the sra of boxbutte, and i beleive you are supposed to pay the camping fee regardless of where you camp, but dont quote me on that.

I've never fished boxbutte before. But I am always fishing for northern. I was wondering where the best place to fish them would be at on boxbutte. and i was wondering about the ice conditions for this sunday.

Looking at a possible trip to Box Butte next weekend. I've never been there before, but if there's ice, there's a way. Is the ice still good? And can anyone recommend a decent place to stay? Thanks
That's why is called "fishing" and not "catching".

Went to Box Butte today.  Fished from Sunup until 2:30.  Lots of nice gills, a couple of nice crappie, and one nice perch.  Tip-ups were pretty consistant with small northern.  10 inches of ice!  Great day on the ice.

I was fishing the westend, I fish both but I seem to like the westend a little better for pike.
