Question about the "incidental catch rule"
« on: Dec 06, 2011, 02:33 PM »
Im a little confused over this rule.

If Im targeting perch and walleye, but catch a nice bass or pickerel, Am I still able to submit the non targeted species?

What exactly is an Incidental catch?

*No incidental catches or out of season entries will be honored. This is to prevent their targeting for the tourney*

This simply means no out of season entries. If a species is out of season where you hail from then you can't enter it.
If you caught it by accident and weren't targeting the species it was an incidental catch.
I'm trying to remain within the laws of your state, province, etc..

Hypothetical :

Lets say where you live you have perch, crappie and walleyes available to you.

Lets say there is a closed season on walleyes from Dec 1st thru April 1st.

Then you cannot enter walleyes in the tournament. We are simply trying to adhere to your local laws.  (The tournament runs from Jan 1st thru March 11th)

You can enter the perch and crappies.

I`ve got a special circumstance on this one.

In most of Quebec, the trout season closes in the winter months.

However, the government stocks certain lakes with trout, and these are open exclusively for ice fishing, normal catch limits do apply.

Are the fish taken from a place with those rules acceptable? Or should I just not enter them?

As long as you are obeying the state, province or body of water regulations you can enter it.

The only reason I made this rule was to prevent the targeting of out of season species specifically for this tournament.  ;)

I'm not fishing in the tournament but just throwing in my .02 after reading this thread what is getting ppl confused is you using the term incidental catch...by me reading it I'm thinking well I'm not targeting the fish but I incidentally caught it so its ok...I can see why ppl are confused...keep it. Simply and say no out of season fish can be entered and leave out incidental catch...I think   ::)

I changed it to read .. *No out of season entries will be honored. This is to prevent their targeting for the tourney*

It won't make a difference. I originally had it written this way and was asked (multiple times) what if I accidentally caught it  .. the reason for it reading incidental catches.  ;)

I know what its like to be badgered with questions of the same subject... There`s always a `` what if ``.

Lonewolf, you display nothing but patience and politeness no matter who asks what question how many times. I tip my hat to you! :)

Thank you for the response.
