Snow on 12/3
« on: Dec 03, 2011, 10:30 PM »
We got around four inches of snow today, started at 9 AM.  I haven't checked my regular hole for damages yet but I did stop by the city park pond.  Didn't look good.  No ice, just three inches of thick slush.  I don't slush fish.  Let's get a state roll call on our fishing spots.  How did everyone else fare?

jimyoumook, where are you at?

here at Norfolk bout 4-5 inches. This won't be good for ice building what we have. Need 30 mph wind soon to blow this stuff away.

I see nothing as far as wind in the extended forecast that looks helpful. 5-8 MPH won't move this crap.

we got about 4inches in Wayne also......  I havn't been out anywhere to look at the ice, other than friday I was at a pond and it wasn't iced over yet.  Doesn't look to good for ice formation.  I know out by plainview got like 2-3 as of around 2:30 yesterday.

I stopped back at the city pond about an hour ago.  I found 1 1/2" of ice, no snow on top.  Looked like the rain yeasterday melted away the ice, then the snow came in and mostly melted into the water.  of that inch and a half, it looked like one inch was fuzzy white and the other half inch was clear.  This may not be as bad as I thought.  I will be headed out to my honey hole in a couple hours to check that out.

Checked recharge lake yesterday afternoon, The snow had sagged the ice enough to turn the snow to slush.  The slush will freeze and it will make good ice underneath.  Slush is much better then a bunch of fluffy snow setting on top of the early ice.  We will be walking on water next weekend!

A little over two inches of ice on my regular spot.  Just like the city pond - one inch of honey comb, then clear ice below.  I feel much better.  I'm still trying to target a pond somewhere south of Sioux Falls that will have 5" on the 10th.  Still not convinced I'll find it in NE.

If the forecast holds, you mabey able to do it on some small water in NE.  It will be close.

In Chadron we got about 1 in. of snow on top of 1 1/2 to 2 in. of ice on a few local ponds. So that ice is damaged a little bit, but with the cold temps coming up I'm not sure how much that is going to mater.

Was in Norfolk for work today so I snuck away and checked the ice on Maskentine. I found a bit over 2" of white ice. Looked like refroze slush, but it was hard to chip through with my big ol' pry bar. I think we'll be in good shape in a week or so.

I took a little walk out on our city pond tonight.  Didn't break it open to check thickness but I'd guess about 3".
