Ice on Boysen
« on: Nov 09, 2011, 12:23 PM »
Well when I crossed the bridge today the south side of the lake had a nice skim of ice and there was a little on the shore on the north side.  The 13 degree temp helped to olefish

Do many people catch cats in Boysen? I have tried for three different seasons now and can still not find a one on the hard water. Any suggestions?

I really don't think there's any rime or reason. I caught one last year in 15 fow in the middle of the day  ???   If you find them, you should get into them pretty good. middle of the night will increase your chances.

I  have also tried for years to catch a cat, but finally during the ice fishing derby I caught a 9 lb cat. I did not move my tip-ups at all for three days and had several bites that I thought were catfish but I was also catching some nice walleye and some perch, but knew that there were catfish in the area because the week before had people fishing the same spot caught some nice cats there just have to have the bait there to catch them, caught mine off of chicken livers, heard big minnows do well but have some people catching them on 2 inch minnows as well.  Some guys were down towards the dam last year during the derby catching about 12 cats ranging around 10 to 17 lbs using 2 to 3 inch minnows.  Good luck to everyone this year, hope to see many of you on the ice.

I believe Ocean lake is next. Was down by south cove the other day and I think it's gonna be real soon. But these 40deg days don't help at all. We need some colder weather!!!

There were 2 boats in south muddy today at about 10:30. The temps are still to high for much ice.

Do all you boysen guys think it might be fishable by next weekend?(the 25th) I have been dying to get on the ice this year and we had talked about runnin up and fishing the wind river canyon that weekend on the res or floating the wedding strippin streamers for big browns. However if we can get on the ice i would like to hunt some cats and walleye :) Just lookin for a general idea from some experienced guys, I understand conditions are bound to change daily.

Word has it, the wind blew what little ice we had back to the soft side. Temps have been pretty cold over night so hopefully it'll come back real soon. Negatory on fishing next weekend unless it turns off below 0.   :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

It looks to be a little early still. But, do you think it will be think thick enough around poison creek? I have some days off next week and would love to get some early season fishing in.

I really doubt it Jonathan. It's almost all capped on the south side of the causway now and hopefully it will stay and build this week. I'm gonna try and get out tomorrow and fish a small bay. I'll keep everybody posted.

It will take several days of sub 0 temps to make fishable ice.  We are at 5 right now..  Sorry but you could fish off the bank for cats..

Small bay southwest of the causeway. Only acessable from private land (when the water is high) is fishable from the hard water. And I just happent to know the farmer that controlls the access  ;D ;D ;D
