I'm sold on my Stabilicers. Been using them 4 seasons now.I've got enough hardware in my back to make a small reel, a total hip replacement in my left side, and I'm going to get the right side replaced in two weeks. I don't need to fall. Heck, I even wear them while snowblowing the driveway. Nothing is prefect, but I've got faith in them.

I'll throw my vote in for the Yak Trak Sports as well, I used them all last season and was extremely impressed, no slips and never had one fall off.

big fan of the stabilicers.  if you were on a budget you could just get ice screws for an ATV and throw those in the bottoms of your boots!!  buddy got a set of stabilicer knock-offs last year - same thing just no name brand for much cheaper than what stabilicers retail for.   the thing i like about stabilicers is that i can use them on my work boots or various different winter boots and they stay on tight.

Stabilicers here too. Get a extra set of screws too as your heel and toe area will where out.

Take an extra piece of Velcro and go from your toe to your ankle strap too. This will help them from slipping off in deep snow or slush conditions. I where mine with Cabela's trans boots (big boots) and at times depending on conditions they do slip off the toe.

Next best is crampons but those can be dangerous and uncomfortable on your feet all day. Go with the Stabilicers, you wont be disappointed.

Good luck,
JIGGIN.

x2 that, Stabilicers are great, thick rubber soles makes it great to knock any kind of ice build up off with a scoop without cutting the straps etc. like the YakTrax. Plus with the extra screws you can replace any that come out, but if you check your screws after every use, you should be good to go for next trip.

Go with the Stabilicers and you'll be very happy and safe on the ice.

How exactly are you guys attaching them to your boots (obviously you're screwing them in but do you use an adhesive, pre drill, etc...) and what size are you using? Thanks

I used the #10 self-tapping...no adhesive. Going on 3 years now and have yet to lose a screw. Nice part about them is no snow/ice build up like you get with some of the other standard cleats.

I was thinking about tire rubber cut to size, screws and velco straps for easy on and off.  Anyone try this?

I picked up some #10x 1/2" screws and tried it on my old boots and it seems to be the ticket and a whole lot cheaper then the alternatives. Thanks

I picked up some Stabilicers Lites a couple years ago which seem to be pretty nice and were about $20. They look like they would work well, but I haven't had a chance to use them yet. Maybe this year we won't have 18" of snow on the ice this year.

you basically just described stabilicers!!!  they're like thick rubber soles with an adjustable, durable strap setup to get them on/off of various size boots, and they have thick portions that stick down where you can put screws into them.  the benefit of these over just screwing them into your boots is the easy on/off....not destroying whatever you walk on!!

i've replaced a few missing screws with regular hex heads.  you can order special stabilicer screws that are a little better (similar to ice screws for ATV/dirt bike tires...they just have more biting edges and can be put in with a screw tip for your drill or a flathead) or just get whatever is available at the local hardware store...i've noticed no difference.  the only thing is that if these regular screws were to wear down they would be harder to remove than the stabilicer screws since they have no flathead slot.

i don't pre-drill my ATV tires when i put ice screws in them so i wouldn't imagine that you'd need to predrill boots.

Yup, and as you found out using screws that are too long will give ya flat feet.  :woot:

If I where going to screw a new pair of shoes I think I would invest in these.

Maxigrip Ice Studs HM11  a little pricey but I like the carbide stud.

The maxigrips are made to go into tires that have spots specifically for studs....so maybe you would pre-drill your boots with those??

These are the stabilicer ones http://www.jharlen.com/32nortcl50.html?productid=32nortcl50&channelid=FROOG notice the deep slot in the hex head so you can remove them once they're worn down.  50 special screws for 4-5 bucks is probably the way to go.

This is what I use on my ATV tires https://www.denniskirk.com/original-gold-ice-screws.p080498.prd  They work great but the smallest quantity is 250 so if you aren't going to use them on an ATV/Dirtbike then it's kind of a waste.

They make a set for shoes comes in a kit.

Fishing on an icy lake, walking in snowy forest path or working on a construction site can be treacherous in winter.  Maxigrip Boot Studs can be fixed on your boots to counter winter's conditions.  Make sure you have your feet firmly planted on the ground with Maxigrip Boots Ice studs also knowned as Maxigrip Boots Snow Studs. Watch our installation guide for Maxigrip Studs.

rairdog, where are you located?  If you're in or near NH, the ice hole has a chinese version of the stabilicers for like half price.....my buddy put a half a season on them and they were fine.
