UNKNOWN Cove, Springfield, VT
« on: Feb 23, 2011, 11:01 AM »
Did a drive by of the cove this morning, looks like pretty tight quarters (CRAMPED) in there. Lots of shanties in a small area. What all do folks catch in there other than a buzz?

Maybe it is Whites, it is right off to the right of the Herrick's boat access on the river. There is a bait n beer shop directly accross from the driveway

Yea, that's White's Cove, and the access area is called Hoyt's Landing. It's a small cove, average debth is about 5 feet. There are only two channels in it, and the deepest water your going to find is about 8 foot, if the water isn't low. I was pulling a few crappies through the ice early. Crappies just got introduced about 10 years ago to that section of river, knowbody knows for sure how they got there, but knowbody's going to complain about it lol   I haven't been down since right before New Years.

It's silting in pretty bad, thirty years ago there were spots around 15' deep, and had average debth of about 11'. Now it has average debth of 5' I bet. Last ice is usually really good for some big perch, Usually about the time people are having to pull the shanties off. The perch usually spawn there the first, or second week of april so they'll be pretty fat now. The pike fishing can be good, I've pulled a few out there over 40''. I've done the best for pike early on in the season, it goes down hill badly around the time Feburary rolls in, just too many people going after them.
