« on: Feb 22, 2011, 09:11 PM »
Headed out today in the cold wind again with Canadian wigeon, and it didn't take long
For CW to yell for a hand a few mins later this joined us for some pics!!

It went just over 7lbs, the bite was slow but we scratched out 7 keeping 5 for dinner

We went for crappies tonight but only got bass and 1 crappie!!

We were getting all r fish on gold champs tipped with minnows, good luck boyz

Awesome splake :o
Like how you have them from big to small ;D. Looks like the small one would fit in that fatties belly

Cant wait for my next trip for them.

If you cant ride it, drink it or bring home it to bed, it aint worth having!

I think my next quest is to catch either some specks, or whitefish

Merv u seem to have it down!!!

I have only fished specks once in the summer and lost one right at shore!! So I am clueless when it comes to them!!

All I know is they hang pretty shallow and still lines and quiet are ur friends how do they bite a champ or small bait???

yeah they do i have caught them in 3 to 6 inches of water as long as they have enough room to swim for the bait they will go there  :o lol but i usually try and keep my lines around 2-5 feet of water. The being quiet thing is an old wives tale, they seem to bite either way i seen them bite cause you drilled a new hole or ran the snowmachine to check the lines running to get the line but every once in awhile they may get spooked if you make a noise right above the hole. for bait i use live minnows either a med to large(2"-3") depends on what size I'm going for.

here's a pic of my rig

i use a gamatzue hook i believe its a #4 with 10lbs lead line to the flasher and i have a hybrid line which is 30lbs test the size of 12lbs test, when i hook the minnow i hook it right below the dorsal fin on the minnow.

hope that helps yeah vexslayer good luck and tight lines

Merv

This is a couple of hours worth of fishing i did last year on my trip we got splake, lakers and specs we got a total of around 150 fish in 4 days amongst us.
