i think that warm weather last week made ice fishing a memory for some, but this cold weather this week fired me back up. i'll be out this week, probably to Deerfield.

I want to get out this weekend also.  The Walleye's are still biting up at Belle Fourche so if the cold weather firms up the edges enough that I won't have to get wet to get to good ice thats were I want to go!  Or else I don't know where to go, maybe back down to Stockade, I talked to a few guys that were having some luck with the Crappies.

walleyes would sure be nice this weekend, but i'm taking a guy out who's not caught a fish through the ice before; so gotta go where i know the fish will bite ... specie doesn't matter! i hear the bite is good at Orman, but, yeah, the ice is another story in some places. but it should be cooled off enough, so long as there isn't a lot of water going in, or out

Hows the bite at Deerfield? Can you drive on the lake or do you have to walk?  I've had my girls out twice now and we have got skunked both times, would be nice to get them on some fish!

drove on it before the warm weather last week, it was pretty good ice. haven't been down there since but I would think it would be OK. I go in from the west inlet picnic area and fish in that bay. it's been decent, can usually scratch a few nice trout out. if access is good, will fish gold run bay for perch and trout.

Which is Gold Run Bay?  Its looking more likely that we will be out on Sunday somewhere, just don't know where.

Gold run is the only big bay on the south side of the lake. It is where the snowmobiles usually cross the road and there is a little store to the south of the road.

Not enough ice or time... not necessarily in that order.

Keyhole still has 2 ft of ice, not that I'm excited about it. Personally I'm ready for the end of ice fishing and ready to see the boats come out again. Until then, get on the ice and do the best you can

Hit Sheridan today. Figured I would be able to find a couple of those big suspended schools by the dam. They have signs up down there that say something about open water ahead. So needless to say, I didn't fish the dam. Any one know the story behind them? I have never seen them before.

There are a bunch of perch spread out along the flat by the north dock. Most are VERY small but there are some really nice ones mixed in if you have the patients to sort.

Yah, bad deal!!  I guess what happend was he inadvertantly drove over the spot where that permi was sitting all winter.  Apparently the ice was pretty thin under it.
They tried getting it out, but the diver couldn't see because it was in 90 FOW, and with all the snow on the ice there just wasn't any light down that deep.
Bad deal, but thankfully the guy was OK!!!!

It sure has scared a lot of people, no tracks past the sign! I guess it just isn't worth the risk. Might have to add a way point. Hey, every bit of structure helps!
