Lake Champlain Rentals
« on: Feb 20, 2011, 06:30 AM »
I know this thread has been discussed before, however most seem to be pretty old.  Tryin to take my son out for some good pike action on Friday, Holiday Harbor is booked and I am lookin to rent a shanty.  Anyone have any ideas??  Thanks....

Call Gil Gagne in Highgate Springs. He rents shanties/campers on Missisquoi Bay. He maintains a road to these shanties that would rival ice road truckers.

I know he was booked this weekend; but may have openings next week.

I was out fishing Thurs/Fri for perch; but managed catching several pike on my jig stick.

Lord of the Perch,
A few questions if you dont mind.
1. Can you walk out to the shanties??
2. How are they heated??
3. What are the rates??

I sent him an email but have yet to have heard back.  Thanks again,

I heard they were $90/day; but could be wrong. You can walk; but it's about .9 miles from the access. The way things are; you may want to bring skates!!!

Chiefbush,

I strongly recomend not buying your bait there.  Go to dockside on your way thru.  You will get the best deal there, and Ben does not hide all the big bait in the back of his shop and sell it only to his friends  ;) .

Just MY humble opinion......

I put Gil's bait toe to toe with any pike bait in the state.  He doesn't save bait, first come first serve.

I am friends with gilbert and I can promise you he shows no favorites, he saved bait for weeks trying to have enough big bait for the islands derby, I fished for weeks on mediums and larges

I called holiday harbor in north hero.  Real nice a knowledgeable owner. $50 per day with wood and a ride to the shanty.  The path is packed down so it's easy to walk if u wanted to.  Drove by today and it looks nice.  Bait shop on premises too.  They'd be the first to try if I needed to renta shanty.

You just admitted he saves bait.

You just made my point...........  Thank you.

We're lucky to have both Ben at Dockside and Capt. Gil at Martin's Store. Both are good guys who sell good bait at a fair price. I have done business with Gil for years, and I have never had any reason whatsoever to badmouth him. He's a straight shooter.

he was saving bait for everyone to have for the derby.  Is there any more big derbys on champlain I dont know about?  Nope so all the bait he has is first come first serve.  That being said get your bait from wherever you want, I would rather you get it somewhere else so theres more good bait for me ;D
