Waterbury Feb 16
« on: Feb 16, 2011, 06:06 PM »
Decent day, Ended up jerking smelt for a good while and pulled up a nice catch, also drove on the plowed road their with no problem, suggest a vehicle with some clearance to get over the ice hump at the access though if you plan on driving on. No problems with a 4x4 Chevy Blazer though

I stopped by the Blush Hill access around 10 am and watched two fishermen set up flags straight ahead and one other guy jigging to the right of the access. They weren't catching anything during the 20 minutes I stayed. id you go off to the left towards the Dam??? I am thinking of giving it a shot on Friday. Haven't been smelt fishing in more than 30 years. Were you using tiny bibets with spikes in 20 to 30 FOW??? Any assistance is appreciated. Will only be able to fish eary afternoon then got to head off to the Ocean to watch my son-in-law run a half marathon. Only problem won't have time to do any fishing, but it's guaranteed to be a cold day as the race is at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire. Tight Lines everyone!!! ;D ;D ;D

Gulps - You talking about the small nugget style that are available in a variety of colors but are labelled to be for trout??? Never used any of this stuff before. or, is it the color of the Hali you want to have right???

yeah the gulps that are like fake maggots, and hali color is important, what works in some areas wont work in others good to have a wide variety

Silver hali, with a #10 hook tied above it, each tipped with 1 or 2 maggots, or a tiny boneless piece of smelt fillet from down by the tail. Fish anywhere, they move around, seem to have good luck under the power lines a lot of times. Try to stay in 15-25 FOW.

Bud- wasn't too bad up there tonight excepts where it had been plowed. the water was deeper in those spots. good walking though. bring your creepers!
