tip downs
« on: Feb 14, 2011, 12:42 PM »
With all this wind today I decided to put some finishing touches on my one tip down that I made
I really like how sensitive they are for blue gills and crappies it worked great I added a dog leg lock
so that when set up it can not collapse or fold back down on its self if something big hits.
Then i made another one  .Does anyone else out there have any stories or suggestions about using there tip downs for any other kinds of fish . I really like setting it up while  i am
jigging now i can set up two.  I included a pic of my finished tip downs. ;D

Icerfish, I don't see wing nuts on your very nice looking tipdowns. But they're negated by the dog leg.

What I've found is that with wing nuts on the hinge bolts, angle adjustment is allowed for "Micro" fine tuning the balance point, but only out of the wind and set so fine that half a paper clip on the rod tip will tip it down. This seems to take a few more on those "Nose Bumpers".

Good luck with them.

Yes i had wing nuts on it before but thought the dog leg would work better .
I was using stove bolts with the wing nuts  it would slip with a bigger crappie on .
maybe after trying them out if I can not adjust them sensitive enough
I can use carriage bolts  and wing nuts .The stove bolts would spin
when I would try tightening the wing nut. thanks
