Caught my first laker through the ice today on Winni around Y landing took some advice from a post in the Vermont forum about jigging for laker's....I was in about 20 feet and was jigging a small Swed pimple with a dead smelt about 4 feet off the bottom....jigging all dif ways....I also dropped a shiner cut up in a few prices and a few salmon eggs....the laker hit in 15 minutes....and he hit hard!

Congrats, caught my first laker too through the ice this year. Lots of helpfull information that folks on this site are willing to share. Way to catch it on a jig that is my next mission!!

caught my first laker as well...i have to tell you laker fishing is pretty cool...just call me jibbsLT from now on...i like it so much i am buying a few new set ups for trout...i guess i can't bad mouth the winni derby anymore...had a lot of fun...now its time to get back on the bass..

i also pulled my first and second lakers through the ice this weekend very fun they were both released for another day somewhere off gilford beach.. the second laker spooled off 150 yards very cool nice 21in laker to end my day at winni

Jigging was great he hit like a bat out of hell...just finished filleting him im gonna try and get a couple pics up tomorrow

I recommend fried fish cakes.....yum, yum. Cooks the small y-bones away, when I fillet trout $:-\$ .

what in the hell is that? haha I was shocked on how good he hit and fought! i can only imagine on a tip up! I was thinkn about going to Silver lake in Harrisville a older man i knew used to pull monsters out of there during the summer! any good lakes to recommend?

I've had Laker Fried, Broiled, baked and stuffed over the years. A lot of people don't like it because it can be heavy and oily depending on how you cook it, You can trim the oil line "the red stripe on the back of the fillet" out and it helps a little. Allegash Lobsta was recommended to me by a Wily old Laker chaser over Alton bay way !

After you get the fillets off, cut them into 1" chunks, get a pot of heavily salted water to a rolling boil and drop em in for between 5 and 10 minutes depending on the thickness, Remove and pat dry with paper towels and serve with drawn Butter, Viola !! Now you have Allegash Lobsta !!

wildnh.gov is a good place to start, all the lakes and species are listed there. Good luck and welcome to the laker chaser Fraternity, There is a support group somewhere here on the Shanty !!

im gonna try it to...skinned or leave the skin on the filet? i usually crush up ritz crackers dip the filet in eggs and then the ritz and fry it in a iron skillet with butter.

1Tablespoon to 1 Quart water will work. It boils the oil out of the flesh without taking away any of the flavor !!

Let's add another person to this, I to caught my first Laker this weekend. Caught an a shiner, sure felt good after all the small perch I was catching all weekend. Only about 3 pounds but sure was fun.
