Corn is illegal in Utah too.  It's got nothing to do with digestion.  You can't digest corn very well either.  In Utah people used to chum with corn.  To the point that there was literally tons of it sitting on the bottom of some reservoirs.  Corn always went on sale a week or so before the opening of fishing season, and people bought it by the case.  You can't even have it in possession while fishing in Utah.

Makes no difference. I believe you can not have any type of corn in your possesion.

I lived in Belgrade MT about 20 years ago, had pretty good luck on corn then ;)

I wish it was illegal in Idaho also Icatch lots of BIG headed skinny trout that just have corn in them. If you cant catch fish without chumming you shouldn't fish .just my 2 cents

:cookoo:

In general, (for Vermont), it is LEGAL to chum.  You can chum with corn, for example, to bring in carp.  I know people that chum with tiny bits of chopped up cooked spaghetti in deep water for burbot and whitefish.  So, in general, there are no laws against the act of chumming itself.

However, if you were to chum with minnows, they would have to be from an approved source.  Imported salted minnows would make a good chum, provided they follow the guidelines on imported preserved baitfish (page 56 I think in the 2011 law book).  Or you could just kill leftover bait and dump it down the hole - that's basically chumming as well, and would be legal.

Tip Up !!!

I used to fish for trout in the summer with corn and hammer them. After cleaning a few and finding their stomachs almost rupturing from being so packed with corn I immediately stopped chumming with whole kernels and used small amounts of creamed corn with the same success.

Many studies have shown that bass can't "pass" plastic worms - resulting in "big headed" fish with slim bodies. As a result they starve to death, or get an infection because of the blockage (and die of that).  Sorta sounds like the same thing.
