Weeds vs Structure
« on: Feb 02, 2011, 01:50 PM »
In Northern Wisconsin today it is 15 degrees with what can be a pretty stiff wind. We just missed the storm that swept the country last night. Anyways, what I'm wondering is, on a day like today, where would you be fishing for Northern Pike? Weeds or structure? Right now I'm set up in 15 f.o.w. on a break of a 20' wall. And while I was in the middle of writing this, I snagged a 17" Wally...who'd have thought I'd get that at 1:30 in the afternoon?

I would agree with icelabrador the best place to be for pike is where its food is and that would be weeds, but if you were looking for walleye then exactly where you were today a deep hole with structure.

Weeds are structure just like a big rock or a log, or a rock bar, maybe you meant drop off's?

If your fishing North Twin like I think you are, I would try the outside edges of the reed flats and up by the creek on the north end. Lots of logs and stuff sticking up for some great structure

Actually I was on Dam Lake in Sugar Camp by Knocker's Bar & Deli. But a good guess nonetheless!! I do fish North Twin (and South Twin) quite a bit but I prefer the 65' hole on the east side of the lake. But growing up fishing up by the old mill (creek) was a favorite spot of my dads. Fond memories of that spot!

totally planning on it but I don't find out if I have to work on saturday or not till tomorrow night. so it's gonna be a last minute thing for me I guess. Are you fishin it? They are only allowing 150 entries so it might be filled up already.

No, I'm fishing the UPS contest on Minocqua, but a friend of mine that is a guide is fishing the tournament.  His name is Gary Myshak, hes a real nice guy and he will probably help you where to find the fish.

I meant that you can go up and talk with him, not go out on a guided trip.  He will probably help you, but if you do decide to go with him sometime, he charges $275.  It may be a bit high but he is easily the best guide you can ever go with.
