Rapala Jigging Rap ?
« on: Feb 01, 2011, 03:53 PM »
Bought a couple different sizes at a garage sale and have not used yet.....I was just wondering how most people fish these?  Jigging it  w/ mousies/spikes/minnows/ or what have you?  Thanks in advance

When I'm gill fishing and only getting small ones I like to bring out the smallest jigging rap I can get and tip it with a couple spikes. Seems to me it seems to make the little ones stay away. I don't catch as many fish, But the ones I do catch are much larger.
Might not be the same everywhere But that's what I have noticed.

Mostly used for perch.  I have seen people use them as small as #2 and as big as #5.  I personally like the #3 GT because it's big enough to go deep in a hurry.  I don't tip my with anything... it's not necessary.  I did try for the first time to put a small soft glow bead on the treble hook.  I don't notice any difference.  Just make sure you have a sharp treble on the bottom cause that's where they are going to hit.

this might be a dumb noobie question, but what's a spke?

i use my jiggin' rap bare..or tipped with a small chunk of bait (partial minnow, fish eye, etc)  just for scent.  haven't had much luck with mine so far

Cut the front and back hook off (less tangling).. Use a minnow head on the treble.. Big sweep up then let settle, repeat. See a fish checking u out jiggle ever so slightly.. I have a hard time landing fish on them they always shake it near the hole. I am thinking about moving up a size on the treble.

I've used spikes, eyes, bacon, and nothing. They all work... Great lures!

hate em, they're not worth a crap unless they're tuned just right.  You ought to send them all to me so they can  properly be disposed of.  ;)

Is it normal to lose the treble hook on these?  Set the hook last week and found the treble was missing when i brought it back up to rebait.

I've never lost a treble hook on them, but I also use pliers to close down the gap on that belly clip.
