Lake Angeline - Ishpeming
« on: Jan 25, 2011, 08:57 PM »
Fished there for the first time on Sunday afternoon. Caught 3 decent perch and 1 splake but forgot my wigglers & waxworms so I only had minnows to use as bait. I was marking fishing pretty regularly and then after dark it really lit up with fish. Been told the smelt action is pretty good after dark.

A splake in Angeline? You sure it wasn't a Lake Trout. There no stocking record for splake in that lake and the lakers have really taken off and are reproducing naturally now. Sometimes the young fish look like splake, and they are a very common by-catch out there.
Good Fishin!!!

I don't know where the splake have come from, but I caught one there a few years back as well.  Maybe it is just a glitch in the stocking reports.

Planning to fish here within a week. Just wondering if you guys fish the deep half or the shallow half.

I would set up on the break between the two. That way yopu can catch just about every species in the lake.

What is the best way to get down to that lake?  I used to drive down to it but they put a berm where the road was(that was years ago).  I was figuring there must be a new access point but have not driven much around it.  I would appreciate a tip on how to access that lake.

Thanks.

There shouldn't be any ubstructions to getting down to the boat launch, I've been down there several times this year, but the road is kinda tricky to find. It's behind some houses on the South West side of the lake.

Was out there this morning,,,8-10 of good ice with some white stuff on top. were some spots right of the boat launch with a few inches of slush right on top. I would never advocate driving a vehicle on ice but its pretty odvious people have been doing it out there.

8-10 isn't enough for this guy. Snowmobile it is.

Driving a vehicle on Angeline is pretty stupid it used to be a mine pit that filled from springs. It has 4 springs that I know of and I'm sure several others. A couple of them stay partially open or only keep an inch or so over them.

I was thinking the same thing!
