this happend last week...was out at my local lake, last couple days had been good, not great but good, decided id try the morning shift, showed up, made the hike, drilled my holes, set the shack up, and got settled in. Took a few minutes for the first victim to show up, and caught 4-5 fish in the first half-hour, not setting the world on fire, but im happy.Bout that time the next signature shows up on the sonar, i gently coax it up, it follows, and stares, so i coax it up another foot, it follows the bait and stares, i go one more time, same thing follows but no response. So i go netural, do nothing, just wait him out...fish stares the bait for over 2 minutes(checked watch out of boredom), finally fish slowly drops back down. I rocket my jig to the bottom, and repeat the earlier steps mentioned above...i did this 4 times with the same signature. After the same slow decent, i got real aggresive, ripped the bait up a foot at a time, the fish would fly up after it, but wouldnt bite. Did that a couple times, finally couldnt take it no more and screamed "ARE YOU BLIND???" down the hole, as dropping the bait back down, line went slack, set the hook...BAM gotcha sucker.I reel him up and out of the hole, 8.5" bluegill, ONE EYE IS ENTIRELY GONE, the other is seriously messed up ...I got tickled and laughed so much, i think the folks around me thought i was crazy.Felt kinda bad after that, but id did enjoy eatin him.HB
I've been LOOKING for that fish and you ate him!Paul
great story and a lot to be learned from what happenend. Shows how powerful the lateral lines on the fish are in letting them know what is around them and how they can hone right in on it. Even when fishing in dirty water I am amazed at how far fish will swim up to 'catch' a falling jig when you know they can't see it. Imainge if humans had that 'sixth sense'!!
