Ice fishing for stripers
« on: Jan 14, 2011, 12:45 PM »
Is it possible in a place where there is a fish ladder, that striped bass would hold over in a freshwater pond like a Gilbert Stuart or that pond across from the mills in Peacedale/ Wakefield..etc? I heard a story last year but not sure if it was probable?

Stripers don't like cold water only winter Stripers I've ever seen were down stream of a power plant in the warm water discharge

Ice fishing stripers,
30+ years ago I read a story in one of the fishing magazines about ice fishing for stripers around middle bridge. The writer claimed that they caught some. There used to be schools of white perch north of the bridge as well.
I never tried ice fishing there myself but I think about trying it once in awhile.
I'm sure that you would need many really very cold nights to try it safely.
The ice over tidal water can be tricky I'm sure.

yea the narrow river gets a good flow..that baby needs to be feet thick for me to get on it! I'm just curious if they ever get up through the various fish ladders and spend the winter in specifically fresh water ponds

in boston, mystic pond has stripers.  my brother caught one a couple years back.  said it was a sick fight.
if the trout are lost, smash the state.
