I don't have any pointers, but was curious if you were heading to Constance?

I fish for them just like I do when targeting brookies. Smaller baits, shallow water.

I mix it up between small minnows or pieces of shrimp. Plus if you aren't catching anything you can heat up the shrimp ring on the ice shack stove and voila! Hors D'oeuvres.

Fished this place years ago. Fishing was actually quite good then with some decent sizes. Shallow water seemed the best and either first light or dusk produced results. The rest of the day was the smell of a birch wood fire from the stove, sausage cooking and being the only shack on the ice on a real nice little kettle lake. A small minnow on a jig usually produced best results. Powerbait o.k. and if memory serves me correctly chicken heart seemed to produce as well. Good Luck.

I have been out there a few times this year. There was alot of people out there every time I was out. You could see lots of fish down the hole as the water is very clear. We would catch one or two but the bite was very slow so I have been going to blackstrap instead and doing much better.

I have looked for this lake on 3 or 4 occasions before yesterday and I finally found the right road and fished it Tuesday. Arrived at 10:30 and fished both ends of the north section; 5'-6' at the south and 10'-16' at the north and did not get a sniff. Tried still rigs with various baits, jigs and minnows, spoons and you name it. Then horror of horrors, I drove over my auger and bent the leg! Seven holes and I was done. And of course I did not bring the hand rig. That is a long way to go to behave like a idjit. Drove away at 3:00, in the fog.
Do these hybrids behave like lakers and go deep or are they more like brookies and prefer the shallows?
Any way to put a small boat in come spring?

shallow shallow shallow...in the winter... 3'-4'. I would imagine that you could put a small boat in where you drive on the lake. sorry to hear about the auger.

Shallow water a very small jighead and light line and a mealworm .

In deep water had some luck with a small minnow on the bottom with a small jighead buried in it .

 Good luck

Thanx for the tips. I will return to that place as soon as it warms up a little (or a lot as it turns out this AM). Next time I will arrive earlier and leave later.
Luckily, my damaged leg has been straightened, thanks to Bear Hills Machine, saving me $187.00 incl.taxes. This is the price quoted by 'phone at Lambert Distributors in Saskatoon for a replacement leg. Seems very high considering that the whole rig was only 250$ three summers ago, even if it does c/w blades!!!
Maybe he was referring to another product??

Anyone been to Constance lately? Just wondering what to expect for ice thickness, snow cover, etc.
I fish better with a lit cigar; some people fish better with talent
