multi species tip ups?
« on: Jan 07, 2011, 04:53 PM »
Anybody ever try double riggin tipups with a couple different baits?
For example, if your in an area that would have perch as well as pike or muskies, and you dont know which is in the area.

While your jigging for perch , you set up tip ups with sucker/shiner on one hook and a fathead on another maybe to give you an idea whats around?

Has anybody tried and if so success rate?

Havent tried it yet myself. Just curious...
Sometimes you have to fish when you can,
not when you want, but guess what?

You're still fishing!!!

I do this but not on the same tip up.

I'll jig for perch and have one tip up set up for perch / Walleye  with a fathead minnow.

I'll have another tip up set up with a large shiner for any Northern that might be cruising the area.
It does work, and has provided a nice "bonus" fish on occasion.

Hope this helps,

Wiener

I use bass minnows on all of my tipups that way the bait is a bit larger and may entice the toothy critters to hit it and eliminate the flags from dinks.

I would think that having that much bait would make setting the flag hard.
Take a kid fishing, they make great pack mules.
Put the big ones back for another day eat the small ones.
