Lost fishing buddies
« on: Jan 07, 2011, 01:41 PM »
Over the past several years I have lost some fishing buddies due to death and some just moved out.  I am looking to see if there are others that would like to fish.  I have all my own gear and generally fish for pike on lake champlain, colchester pond, but have ventured to carmi, dunmore and caspian for other species.

If you are interested let me know.  It is always more fun with others.

is there an actual access or do you have to cross a person property? what were you fishing for out there?

I haven't been out yet and can't go until 1/17.

There is a private access that was closed off last winter when a drunken wing nut drove his suburban onto the ice while trying to elude police. The suburban
made it around the point headed to the fill and broke through, not completely. He got it out after a couple of weeks. The access was closed off almost immediately. Its my understanding that the residents who live on the point and maintain that access chose safety and health of the bay over giving unrestricted access. I wholeheartedly agree with that but it was convenient to park along the shore then walk out. And dammit we've lost another Colchester access to the outer bay. We lost the Porters Point access about 4 years ago.

I live 5 minutes away and should probably go take a look for myself huh?

I dont know of any chained access......I parked at the public access area on Mills point road and hauled my butt down the bike path to get on the ice.  That is the only way other than going through someones yard in which I dont want to do since there are many angry folks out there and especially toward fisherman......hence the other post of the drunken idiot who ruin it for everyone else!

I just fish for pike, but have caught perch on that end as well.  Still doing my homework on colchester pond.....so far I caught fish everyplace I fished there.  I figure the North end does not get that much pressure due to the haul out there.  The east side of the pond also seems quiet on most days with the exception of the South East side off that point everyone likes to fish.

Seems pike are everywhere......I did not really expect to catch them in front of bayside either, but did.  My theory is to fish the shallows.....eventuall y they will push bait in to trap them.  Mills point area depth is mostly 1-3 feet of water.....similar to the south side of the sandbar.  I have another spot I want to try as well and we will see.

Where you walked through to access the ice is where you were once able to drive through and park or continue further out. You parked at the bike path parking lot, not a public access.

Well I can certainly say one cant drive down there now.  I had no idea you used to be able to drive out there.  Would make life a lot easier.....but on the other hand it keeps the fishing pressure really low too!
