Hey all I caught this fish at Pathfinder yesterday and I was concerned on what is going on with this her? The fish looks very unhealthy with how fat it was. Does anyone have any answers to why it's so bloated??

When I catch one like that, it goes straight to the G&F for their lab guys to test...who knows, ya might catch some type of fish-plague and nip it in the bud before it can spread

I don't know but I bet he's glad you caught him. He's been swimmin' around down there like a blow fish for 4 years while his friends zip off down the shoreline.

I have seen brookies like that. They could not spawn because the stream coming into their lake dried up so they just seemed to carry the eggs till they rotted inside. They would float around on the surface unable to dive at all--- weird

I have caught a few rainbows out of Boysen through the ice that were really fat , but not quite as fat as that one. What they had inside was the previous years spawn that they never released plus were developing new spawn for the coming spring. The old spawn was nasty looking stuff,some of it was all shrunk up like they were trying to reabsorb it.

I am really big on catch and release, I rarely keep a trout unless it swallows the hook bad. So unfortunately i turned this fatty loose thinking she was full of eggs and like moose said, If she does grow 5-10 or however many more years she would be a PIG! But looking back on it I regret not opening it and seeing what was up or taking it in to the game and fish

. I felt like it was packed with eggs so hopefully she will have a succesful spawn and not lose that mama fat and one of us can catch her again in a few years

That's pretty interesting. I showed my wife - she was a fisheries tech this summer - and she said she has seen some kind of like that with fatty tumors in their bellies. She did not know what it was though. So who knows!

Ive seen female rainbows with carried over eggs from previous spawns and they are usually very fat. I think hatchery fish are a confused animal as they have little or no success spawning.

One of the G&F biologists told me it could be a result of a cyst or problem with it's ovaries, but couldn't be 100% sure without opening it up. This fish I caught in the high country last spring fought like a perfectly healthy fish and swam away just fine.

I have caught a northen pikeminnow(coarse fish) which was very fat for its size, so i slit im open and he had a tape worm that was about 4 feet long in side of it. the fish was maybe 9 inches long. it was very strange!

That's kind of similar to something that happened to me last week at Upper Sunshine. My second fish was overly fat, not quite as distorted as that one, but still odd looking. I slid her over by the others and continued to fish. About five minutes later I looked over and she had a big spill underneath her that wasn't bloody but a lighter red clear liquid. Her whole belly shrunk up so bad there wasn't anything left to speak of and all shriveled up. It was kind of weird. When filleted out, there wasn't much to speak of in her belly. The meat seemed alright though.

I'm fat and I may not move to fast but I still get around ok. About that dork fish thing. When I read that I had coffee comming out of my nose. LOL X2. That was great.
