Just curious how many shanty members are planning on fishing the Boysen Derby and what general area they are planning on fishing. Last year I fished Tough Creek.... and let me tell you what it was Tough! Am hoping to get better results this year and maybe meet a few of the shanty members while I'm there. Also any tips would be appreciated!

I'm gonna try to make the derby. never fished it before but look forward to winning it

I will be heading up again this year and meeting my dad and brother. We fished Tough Creek last year and did pretty well. We caught the largest trout and were one out of the money for walleye and ling. I don't know where we will be this year. Tough Creek is not my favorite place to fish, but it is easy to get campers into.

Another question for you guys. I was looking at the farmers almanac fishing calender and it says that the days of the derby are the worst for fishing..... Do you guys believe in this or have you proved it wrong??? Just curious, I know last year it fell the same on the calendar and I fished for three days without a single bite.

I am a believer but I look at a different calendar and according to it there should be a moderate to fair bite...

The "BUSCH LITE ALMANAC" says it is going to be an awesome fishing derby... And I am a believer in that..

Its funny. With the 2011 Almanac that is the prediction for all outings. Gotta just love the wisdom.

I am in, but I do not know where I will set up, there is still time to pre fish and find that perfect spot. But also need a spot to get the camper down to, so I can have a spot to sleep and fish at night. I fished from the dam all the way to Muddy last year, did end up with a 1.1 pound perch, but nothing else to talk about.

I have always trustd in my skills mixed with hungry fish, never the almanack. A person just has to find fish that are hungry and in the mood for biting.

I go with the weather fronts first, second-the moon phases, third time of day, fourth would be specific baits and the speed they are fished. Fish a weather front on a new moon in the evening with hot bait would make a sack full of fish. This has worked for me too numerous to count. Spring warm up and fall cool down both have a great deal to do with agressive feeding periods.
The number one way to catch fish is to get off the couch.

I know usually that Walkers in Shoshoni and BK shorline stop on HWY 789 west of the causway are check-in points but as far as forms, i dunno. i'm sure somebody knows something.

My brother and I will be there. We fished Toughcreek last year thinking of heading somewhere new this year but ya never know its easy to get the camper to.

Ive found that the best time to go fishing is...whenever i can and stay as long as i can.

My Buds and I are usually there,didnt make it last year cuz Pathfinder derby was the same weekend.but this year there seperated so we will be there.Its gonna be a good year I can feel it in my bones

I'll be up too late in the evening on friday to fish the tourney, but will be on the ice from late late friday night until Sunday at around noon. My buddy and I will have radios. Has a channel for the shanty been set yet? I'd like to make some stops and meet some of you guys.
