Vexilar Battery Question
« on: Jan 03, 2011, 10:27 AM »
Hi all,

My battery for my Fl-18 just died, and I am looking to buy a battery to replace it. The one that I currently have is the 12V, 9 amp Vexilar battery. I am hoping to get a replacement quickly, and the only local one I can find is a MarCum 12V 7amp battery. Would this work for my flasher? Here is a link to the one I am looking at. Battery

Thanks.

Wes

12v 9amp is also common to motorcycles & ATVs.  Try a dealer or mechanic.

Last year, bought several 12v 7.4 amp batteries from a local security systems guy (back up batteries).  If you know anybody in the maintenance section of a nearby hospital then they dispose of 12v batteries (many unused) after 6 months or a year.  So far, no duds.  All work well in my FL-18.  If you buy on the secondary market then make sure to test it before hooking it up to your Vex.

If you look on the Vexilar website they sell both the 7 and 9 amp battery so I would say YES you can.

here is what the Vexilar web site has on the 7 amp.

Any sealed lead acid or gel cell in 12 volt. 7ah 8ah or 9ah will work. Obviously 9ah is the best, but it also has a higher cost. you should be able to find them anywhere, gander, bps, cabelas, battery store, heck even walmart carries them from time to time.

Used to be a few sellers on ebay that sold 7ah for $10-$15 shipped.

Here is an answer I got from Matt Johnson on the Vexilar forum. I asked what the difference was between the 7 and 9 amp batteries.

"Yes, you can use both a 7amp and 9amp battery with all the Vexilar units. The 9amp battery will however give you more sustained power and longevity. It also takes a better charge and maintains a stronger memory. For more performance situations you won't notice a different between the 7amp and 9amp when on a full charge, but you will notice a difference down the road, whether it be during a single day or after a season..."
