Warm day and flags were popping!
« on: Dec 30, 2010, 09:22 PM »
 :'(

That was it yet after 15 - 20 flags popping we still caught nothing on them!!!
We tried setting the hook right away
We tried letting the  fish take a lot of line
We tried a sharp hook set
We tried a pull hook set

A hand full of sunnies and 1 bass jigged up

Kinda sucked but, at least we got out there, it was warm out and we made it off safe...

Would have been nice to yank one up though

Kenosia

15 flags and no lands?  Were most of the shiners still there?

Might be time to tinker with those tipups.

What were you fishing for? Sounds odd to have 15 flags and no fish...
If fishing was work I'd never be sick!

sounds like crappies when  they trip the flag and feel the motion of it going up and drop the bait.  Next time pull the tip up and drop a bait hook down there on a jigging rod  you might just have a ball with them.

I was having the same problem today.  About 10 flags and 5 empty hooks  before I pulled up my first fish of the day.

was trying a few different things to actually land the fish but nothing seemed to work.

Kenosia is loaded with Crappie which will steal the bait whenever they get the chance. I agree drop down a jig on a rod and you should have fun with them.

I've found that circle hooks can help sometimes.  But some days it just seems like nothing works. May e smaller minnows? Or just sting them with the jig.

We ended up getting some bass and a bullhead hooked yesterday at Kenosia. My buddy actually had one snap is 14lb mono leader!

We ended up catching some bass perch and crappie jigging. My son who has only gone ice fishing once which was last year jigged up a couple bass and a sunny  ;D

I believe pert of the problem was small crappie or other small fish taking the bait and popping SOME flags.

I agree with some of the other posts...try changing hook style/size. Then make sure your bait matches your fishing location. Were you on Kenosia? How were the edges getting off?

Were you on Kenosia?  Yes
How were the edges getting off?   Unsure of what you exactly mean. If you are talking about the ice, the ice was fine but with the wamrer temperature there was plenty of slush on the ice!

The day where we did not set any on the flags we used mediums

We used a few different size hooks on different tip ups most were the same hooks we used from last season...
