Eskimo hand auger
« on: Dec 30, 2010, 11:39 AM »
Does anyone have any thoughts on the "Eskimo hand auger".  Thinking of getting a 7" one.  Are they worth it or should I pay the little bit extra and get the Mora.  My 7" mora isn't cutting well, even with brand new blades.  Are the Eskimos any good?

I have an 8" Eskimo (I think)...  Should have spent the extra $$$

Well constructed and not too hard to use (though a pommel top instead of a handlebar top would be an improvement), it gives you a pretty good workout cutting holes in 6" or more of ice.

If I buy another, it will be a nils.

I have an eskimo 6" that cuts well. i always keep sharp/new blades on hand. my wife cut a hole through 8" of ice with no problem...and thn caught a 13" brookie.

Nils are good from what I understand....but someone said you have to ship the auger back out to get it sharpened??

Eskimo makes two different hand augers and the Barracuda is by far the best.
I pratice fillet and release!
