mt lake, hope nj
« on: Dec 21, 2010, 11:25 AM »
Fished Mt lake today for about 4hrs no flags.  I was on 3 1/2 inches maybe 4 near the swimming beach.  That seemed to be the only safe area so far.  She was singing at me so she was definetly getting thicker today.  The whole south eastern cove was wide open. :o

Hey Ski figured you were going nuts but checked your recent posts and see your into walleye. Merry Christmas. A couple cold nights and my crappie ponds will be set to go and I'll stop going nuts.

Anyone have a "latest" report on the ice at Mountain Lake?
Anyone know if the area by the clubhouse is now open to the public to park and fish?

Ice 4-5 inches along the west shore. A ton of guys on the ice yesterday morning. Fished it two Saturdays ago lost a musky at the hole, yesterday my fishing buddy caught a 34 incher and we saw one other caught. Not 2 good for having 12+ guys on the ice.

Thanks for the reply.  I went out on tuesday and got skunked.  I saw one guy catch a 30"er and spoke to another guy who caught a 43"er over by the bar.  I fished in the south west corner.  The ice is sloppy on top but good ice underneath.  Be careful along the south shoreline it was only about three inches near the white pier by the lodge.  Decided not to go any further than that.

Hey guys Mt. Hope Lake isn't private right? Just found it the other day actually so I don't know much about the pond or lake.

Are you asking about Mountain Lake near Hope or Mt. Hope Pond in Rockaway? Sounds like Mt. Hope pond.

Neither Mtn. Lake nor Mt. Hope Pond are private FYI.

I've spent a total of 24 hrs there over a period of 4 trips.  I had two flags.  One landed me a 33 incher and I lost the other one.  I spoke to a guy who caught a 43 " and released it and saw another catch and release a 30" muskie.  I've been fishing on the south west side and the ice has been ok.  Last time out it was about 4" with a lot of slop on top.  I've seen guys all over the western end, in front of the bar, down by the inlet on the eastern shoreline as well as the southern shoreline just past the old beach area.  It looked locked solid across the middle but I don't know how safe it is.  I'm gonna try and get out there sometime this weekend too.  Good luck!!!

I fished there on Thursday.   Ice was 6 inches by the Boat Launch.
Good ice straight out to the middle.  6 Inches the whole way.
Slush on top was freezing up.

Guy fishing next to us caught one musky about 26-28 inches.

I went the entire season a few years back without a flag...thats 300+ hours with nothing but big baits in the water....so I switched to chasing stripers where I expect to see those kind of hours without a flag  ;)
