No way.  We listened to the guys presentation and he said you will ice 80-90 percent of the flags with fish.  We do that now with our $10 tip ups.

I'm using old tip ups with all brass hard ware and a grease filled brass tube for the trigger wire. I have absolutely no problems with them. I use them till they no longer work. No need for $ 50 tip ups.

that was a shock :o :o ... i'd seen those on-line and thought they looked pretty cool so when i saw them at the show i got excited then when he said the price it was all i could do not to laugh in his face i would say that conservatively i put 80% of my flags on the ice already so spending 5x as much for only 5% more fish really didn't seem like a good deal!!

Last year Gander put all of their tip ups on sale in the store for 9.99.......I was a smart cookie and grabbed the remaining 5 Beaver Dams in the store.....normally 34.99....I paid 9.99 each for some of the best tip ups money can buy!  What a deal !

I also saw the tip ups at the show....I kept walking after I heard the price.

What was the Brand name guys? I would like to see what they look like and WHY they would cost that much. Ive got Indian Hills and paid $35 each for them, but to me they way they are built and designed, they are worth every penny.

I have some buddies that would pay 50 dollars a peice for tip ups....as long as they were Fish Crafters in good shape... LOL  Seriously they are some of the best tipups made and they are hard to find anymore unless you go rummaging through your grandfathers old stuff.

I purchased three as a test run at a discounted price. Im am getting into guiding next year and if the tip up sets the hook automatically then I can foresee a lot of my clients who have never caught fish or tip up fished before being happy with them. If they work out well I will let ya'll know. I will be putting them to the test chasing tigers, Northerns, Landlockeds, and lake trout all winter! A happy client is a happy guide!  :icefish:

I had one for a couple years now, they work some times not all the time,  I stop using tip ups more of a pain that they are worth to me, but once in a while I will use them, if anybody lives near me and wants to try it no problem  here is old man freddie showing this tip up in action when he was a lot younger http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xrlj0pOorO8                                                        http://www.hooksettipup.com/

If the tip up sets the hook on the fish, why are they running to the tip up.  Fish should be hooked already, right?

Exactly, the difference being the hook is set as soon as the fish bites. Idk about you guys but when I hook a fish it tends to not be pleased and wants to take off. Especially a 40in Tiger Musky or Northern Pike. You don't want to be spooled while on the ice especially if its a big fish!
