fishing at night in NY ????????

I have heard conflicting reports about being able to fish after dark in NY.  I am relatively new to ice fishing and want to know if its legal to fish after dark.  I hear the crappie start to turn on at dusk and continue into the dark.  I want to fish Chautauqua lake for them but don't want to break any regulations

Perfectly legal. I hope so anyway. I do it sometimes and have never read anything in the regulations saying it's not.

I fish Chautauqua at night all the time and never had a problem. Just make sure you are not parked in a lot that closes at a certain time. I think there is a law that states no permanent shacks on the lake.

some state parks do not allow it, so check your local regulations. otherwise, it is perfectly legal. you can't leave your tip-ups unattended at anytime, and can't leave them out overnight.

Pick up some of the little blinking red lights for bicycles.  Lantern is a must too. Can't be too visible while out there in the dark.
