what do you use to carry your tip ups?
« on: Dec 14, 2010, 06:19 PM »
just wanted to get some ideas on how to carry my tipups?  I dont just want to throw them all in the sled, are there any good ways to keep them seperated or any other ideas to keep them apart?

They have carry cases for jack traps but they are pretty expensive.  Ill probably just biuld some type of cubicles for each one in my sled.  I think im gonna have a sled just for tipups and setting them out?  does anyone else do that?

Pack basket- all your tip ups and jig rods together , plus enough space for extras if you get the right size. Thats what I use.

I like putting everything in a casella recycling bin, the little green ones, they are bigger than milk crates but still provide good stability in a sled

I was thinking you could get a plastic tote that will fit right in your sled.

I use an old bag that I got with a car jack kit. I believe it was from Walmart. Holds them nicely!

I use a rubbermaid tote bin, kinda nice because you can cover it, I have a bunch of polar tip ups so they fit nice.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there would be a shortage of fishing poles.

I use a deep jet sled that works great for everything I need....portable shanty, ice auger, chair and of course tip ups and bait.

Best investment I made.

I built a pine box to put them in, I bolt it to my four wheeler or keep it in my sled

Find an old soft bow case. Works well, I velcro the hooks to the reels so they don't get hooked into the liner. Works well on sleds as well.

A 5 gal. bucket with a bucket buddy bungee corded to an old pack frame lets me carry 8 underwaters, 7 Champlain jacks, 2 rods, a gaff, skimmer, tackle box and all kinds of little extras in the buddy's pockets.
One more with the one we're after and we'll have two.

I carry mine in an old gym bag [couple of bucks at the resale store].

I first put the traps in old plastic bread wrappers/bags. They are not much for durability but they get'em to the ice in some order.

My wife got me some sort of military backpack deal. I put a wooden frame inside it with some 1x1s and 2 small pieces of paneling to make it more stiff. It is approx 18H x 10W x 9D. Its getting faded, but it works pretty snazzy and has tons of storage compartments. Ive got 7 HT black plastic tip-ups in there and still tons of room. Wish it was 4 inches taller though...

Large plastic tote, fits in the sled with the auger next to it and the square (kitty litter) bait bucket on the end. The tote keeps everything from getting snowed on and makes a decent seat.

Sometimes I throw them in the bottom of th sled, but my ready rig rod locker, has an outer pocket on each side that holds one perfectly
