Agree and I avoid it, good fish just a PIA. Plenty of good and easier to figure out water around, especially South of Jackson

Thanks tank and swift....we fished it hard in open water growing up and at times it was trying.  I figured it may be easier to pattern thru the ice.  I have heard of some fellas doing good out there so being that I am alot closer to some of those southern jackson lakes I may stay close to home...

second the 200 yards straite out, probably 20 ft nice jumbo perch, if they are biting. and few in between. duck is hard to hook up on but the reward is worth it when you hit'em.

if you go from the launch straight out about 150 to 200 yds you will be standing along the shelf that drops from 3 fow to about 30 fow. the shelf runs east to west, along that wall is a good place to start. i use small tube jigs or plastics along the wall and you can find some very big gills there. if you have a vex of some type of flasher it is almost a must, so you can find the correct depth, they will roam that wall from top to bottom. From there turn south and go about another 200 yds and you will be on top of the mid lake hump. about 2 fow, but it drops off sharply all around that hump. on the west side of the hump it goes down almost 50ft. i set tip-ups for pike, which can be big along the edges, and then jig for walleye to the north side of the hump between the wall and the hump.  good luck.  :) :)

Lived on the lake for two years and yes it is a tough lake to learn, but when you do it is worth it.  The first year I did alot of exploring and it was always hit or miss.  Last year I caught a little over 300 perch and 21 walleye.  The biggest thing that I learned was to stay away from the crowds. Those guys are right about going strait off the boat launch for some gills.  The key is to find some green weeds. Good luck

Ohh and my buddy was out there today and there is a solid 4in of ice off the dropoffs. The only open water was down at the south end, I guess the geese are keeping that open.

Go sight fish it. Sight the other fisherman and spud them in.

That is a method I often ponder, but who will I get to check for soft spots after?

I thought there might be some open water yet, I am staying close to home sat, clear lake in the a.m. some buds are going too. Then walmpers or clark in the afternoon, unless clear is hot.
