Spearing Trip...
« on: Dec 14, 2010, 02:56 AM »
Hey guys, I've checked out some threads on this board and am definitely interested in making a spearing trip this year if I get enough overtime. How much should I expect to cost? As far as a spear I have my grandfather's old spear that he used to use here to get pike from shore. Will that work? I guess I'm looking for a step in the right direction...

The last time i heard it was $100 per day got you droped off at a shanty, a spear, short lesson, and a heater. The only place I know of on lake oahe  that is set up to guide is West Praire Resort North of Pierre SD.  Travel would be your bigest expence.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm really trying to pull some strings to make this happen. Maybe a bit extra on a student loan?  ;D

I would check Minnesota.  There used to be a few outfitters that had cabins set up on a lake that you could rent for the week.  That would be a great time to just stay out on the ice  in a cozy cabin and spear.  Might even be some out by you, just have to do some searching.
I think in Minnesota you have to be a resident of that state to spear fish ???

As of july 2010, nonresidents may now spear in Minnesota.

The closest state to Vermont that allows spearing is Michigan...
