Interesting.  I always thought that the biggest fish were caught through the ice.  Looking at those pics, they were all on open water.  Any ideas?

They could have been a state record in either Utah or Wyoming but a state record will never come from that mans boat, as every fish is released.  I have got a lot of respect for anyone who releases those fish, as they are getting tougher and tougher to catch.

Tuche....I guess you're right. If you don't care about the records and release the fish more power to you. You're a better man than I. I think If I knew I had the state record...it would be awfully hard for me to release that fish.

The state record (WY & UT) has been broken more than a few times by guys who simply release them (I have pictures  ;)). Unlike those 300 pound cats that use to be common in this country (research it).

Duhwhite24, nice to hear from you buddy! :)

Every single one of them.

FYI, recently I ran into a biologist who I know and picked his brain a little bit about lakers (just to hear it from the horses mouth again). He said that they have done studies on lake trout in our state, with the help of Canadian experts, and determined that lake trout are one year old for every pound of body weight (Not in every case, but on average. I remember an article about a 20+ yr old fish that was only something like 10 pounds...). Pretty amazing. He also happened to mention that they found lakers don't become sexually mature until around 7 or 8 years of age. Anyway, interesting stuff to consider.

In my opinion those fish deserve to live. Imagine a lake trout that is 50+lbs could be 30, 40 maybe even 50 years old. You can always snap a picture and get measurements and have a reproduction made. There is a certain guide that guides on FG reservoir that kills a ton of 15+ pound fish every year. If you kill a fish that is 15+ pound fish it will take 15 or more years to replace that fish. I'm not saying that it isn't alright to keep a fish of a lifetime but if everyone practiced catch and release most of the time, our trophy lake trout fisheries here in Wyoming will be around for many years to come. Something to think about!!
