Barre, VT Area.... and good ponds nearby?
« on: Dec 13, 2010, 12:38 PM »
My in-laws live in Barre, VT and I was wondering if there were any good ponds in the vicinity (under 1/2 hour)? I think Joes Pond is the furthest I would drive or Curtis.... anything else in the area? Looking for a bass/perch/pike/crappie typr pond/lake vs salmon/trout. Thanks.

I live in the barre area and we have fished just about every pond near here. Rude pond is very slow fishing the times we went all we got were a few small perch... Woodbury Lake is about 30 to 40 minutes away but it is good fishing browns rainbows and perch.. joes is great for perch and every year we see a couple 5 pound hook jaw brown come out of there. marshfield is only 30 minutes away another great spot for perch and pike the action can get slow though.. good luck this season

careful of te season's don't fish a trout pond before the season starts!  Lake Morey in Fairlee has awesome fishin fr bass and jumbo perch.  Lake Fairlee is close by as well and I know that is all locked right now.  Morey also has some phenominal pan fishing.

I don't know how to submit a pic from my phone or I would show the 5 pound 13 ounce largemouth I caught at Rood Pond in September.

He said 'good' fishing

Never fished Waterbury, I just see photos posted here. They pull pretty good trout out, are they few and far between?

Thanks guys - much appreciated again. Do you know where I may be able to buy some shiners in the Barre area? I know R & L only carries maggots and worms. Thanks.

Fished it half a dozen times.  Won't be a 7th trip for me.  Maybe there are good fish in there, but I've never been impressed with it.

You can get bait at Ricks bait shop in East Calais he usually has a sign out in front of his house right on route 14 on the way to Woodbury lake

waterbury resvoir is your best bet.its the largest body of water 30 minutes out of barre and the deepest.all those fore mentioned ponds are ok....especially peacham.but peacham is small and the deepest hole can get crowded fast.no luck on shiners or baitfish around barre.....pour a glass of city water right out the tap, bada bing...baitfish.at waterbury you can fish all day on crawlers from wally world or powerbait,i've always had a good time catching trout, bass, perch on worms there

Fishing out off Route 14 has been good the last few days. Woodbury, Curtis, Greenwood, and North Montpelier Pond all produced the species you are looking for and for the most part the ice was legit!

country boys is just south of the ledges, mountain road there's a sign. first house on the left. if your going north out of fairlee it's about 2.5-3 miles just past farmer hodges. and yes he's stocked. been slamming fish on the on the river, 4-6" of good ice fri-70 sat-60 mon-60 today-50 perch, sunday tip ups 4 pike one 6lber and a 3.5lb walleye!!! 2 perch 2lbs a piece plus a pile of good ones. checked morey yesterday, sad sad sad 2" very north end still small open spot in the middle lots of buckles and funky looking ice. that last rain really screwed the ice up!
