The medicine used to kill the tape worm is basically a poison and it makes you very ill while killing the parasite. I've witnessed it with my father......not pretty.

lmao.....
There is only one theory about angling in which I have perfect confidence, and this is that the two words, least appropriate to any statement, about it, are the words "always" and "never."

I'm behind, because of the 24 hours curing... And I had to make two different batchs of deer, because of rack space... Stay tuned!

I have a bag with your name on it... Lol. Tomorrow should be perfect for catching (weatherwise) just remember, cut me off at 25!  Next week, I'll been switching gears to eyes and crappie, and I can't wait! Waxy, are we going to cross paths this year, and if so, who's turf?

I just read this thread, and my thoughts are that the fish High Tide caught (like those in his avitar) would have weighed a whole lot more if not for all the tape worms that he now has baked into his jerky.  Meat is meat , I guess.

I am sure we will cross paths soon.  When the crappies turn on your lake let me know and maybe I can make the trip down there or if you are up this way anytime soon, let me know!

I should be on the crappie by Monday next week, so once you see the pics, you guys know the invite is open (if I'm not up north).  Also, the fish Jerky is GREAT, but gone... (a 4 pound walleye fillet looked like a 8" gill fillet after 10 hours)  ;D.  Paul sampled the deer, and I think he liked it, but I didn't give him any fish jerky, because I didn't want to be responsible for any health problems. LOL

sorry for the late reply Hightide, you'll hafta search field and streams archives to get the exact recipe, but i putry much just made my own, the article just gave me the idea.
The first batch i made i used rainbow trout, and i left the skin on. The skin became slightly tough, and it had a mild fish taste.
The second-20th or so(yeah, it was a hit) batch was catfish. Obviously no skin, and a much milder jerky. I froze all my fish before curing, most went a couple weeks to couple months, just building up enough to make a big batch, as you stated with the walleye, the process can really shrink your catch.

Havnet made jerky in awhile, guess im gonna hafta start keepin some cats again.

Also, the fish Jerky is GREAT, but gone...

Hopefully you don't have any issues with tapeworms, but if you do there is a time honored natural remedy.  Sit bare butt in a bucket of milk.  Then, when the worms poke their heads out to feed on the milk, you just grab them with needle nose pliers and pull them out.  It's a lot easier on your body than taking the prescription drugs that doctors are going to try to sell you.

like the old timers did for cattle and horses, swaller some snuff/chew, kills worms right quick.
90 proof tends to keep one free of worms as well.

the whole bucket o milk and pliers...yikes man, and thats coming from me :o

thats an amish cure for tape worms.  you need to pull slowly just like picking night crawlers. lol  i think i would try the 90proof first though. :o
