Are Slammer tip ups legal in Idaho?
« on: Dec 12, 2010, 09:24 AM »
Are Slammer style tip-ups legal here in Idaho?  I can't find it in the regs.

Also, it seems like tip ups are real popular back east and in the Midwest, but I haven't seen them used much around here.  Anybody know why that is?

A tip up is a tip up. No discrimination as to brand name and style. Just check the regs to make sure how many you can use.

Hey Ice Foot,

Is "Slammer" a brand or style? As far as I know Idaho allows everything but dynamite and poison, hehe.
Hand lines, tip-ups, hand-lines, etc. You are allowed (5) of whatever method you use and in combination i.e. 2 rods and 3 tip-ups. The only thing they don't allow as far as bait is live minnows, bummer....Hogger

A slammer tip up holds the pole with some tension on the tip.  When the fish hits, the tip up triggers, the pole snaps up and (supposedly) sets the hook.  My wife says that's got tot be the laziest kind of fishing there is.  But just wondering, is it legal in Idaho?

I asked IDF&G a while back and this is what I got.

there is something else to that, the law is five lines in the water per person, so if you want to be jigging, you'll have to pull up one tipup.
i just use rods in rod holders, so not much tipup experience.

Most of the time I gig with two poles and set out 3 tip ups for trout or pike.
