Big Trout Lake M-94
« on: Dec 06, 2010, 08:08 AM »
I was wondering if anyone has ANY information on Big Trout Lake off of M-94 by Red Fox Run Golf Course.  I drove to the access site on Friday but had little ones with so didn't venture onto the ice.  I've never fished it before, so I have no idea of what's in the lake.  I am interested in this lake because it's less than 30 minutes away from my house.  It will also be nice to move to another closer lake after skunking up Engman.

Rainbows....Browns and i think some perch too.  its a tough one    ive did well at night in the summer...but not so hot in the winter!  ive ice fished there 4 times in the last couple years and 1 fish to show for it!  but the last time I was there I had a nice fish on that actually broke my line off after i fought it for a minute...im figuring it was a nice brown.  if your looking to have a action packed day id go somewhere else....u have alot of lakes to choose from

Thanks for the info BiG ARN.  I'll have to give it a try just to see.  I should be getting out onto the ice this weekend.  Anybody know an idiot with a bald head, drives a pinkish Taurus or Contour?  If you find fish, he WILL fish your spot till it's dried up.  Just a warning.

I've put in a considerable amount of time on this lake. My final verdict echos what the other guys said- find somewhere else to spend your time. If your looking for trout Spoorly, Little Shag, or Johnson would be better bets. Actually, almost ANY lake would be a better bet now that I think about it.

Can't say I know what guy your talking about.   It would be hillarious if he setup on my spot because I would just setup my command post right over him!   If he was still there after I pee on him and tell him what a lamer he is!   I think he would get sick of me really quick!    I avoid all beaten down spots so if there's anyone I don't know in my spot we are gonna have words.

I think I've seen the car- I believe it's actually an older Escort now that I think about it. It's hard to mistake...if I remember correctly, it has some rust spots that he's tried to cover with a can of spray paint, but it's not a matching color. He's never set up over my spot...but I know exactly what would happen if he did :P

I have caught some decent perch at Big Trout but nothing EVER through the ice.  I did good at Engman in the summer but once again NOTHING in the winter.  I think this year I will hit Sporley and some of those lakes around Gwinn.

I was there this last weekend 12/18 and hammered some really nice bluegill I believe our biggest one just under 10 inches, had to snowmobile in and park at the launch plenty of ice for safe walking but I wouldn't  sled on it. No trout a few bass on tip ups.
