Snap swivels on halis
« on: Dec 02, 2010, 05:17 PM »
Do you guys tie direct or use a small snap swivel on jiggin raps and halis? I noticed on the jiggin rap package it says to use a small snap but seems to me tying direct would be better like most jigs?

Use a small snap (no swivel) or a surgeons loop. Tying directly and tightly to the bait can kill some of the subtle action in the bait that's needed at times

I would never use a swivel on a jiggin rap, Im looking for it the sit a certain way, and a swivel will not let me do that. As for Hali's I could see using a small snap swivel, but i dont. tying directly on is how I do it 95% of the time

I use a snap, because it's primary purpose is to figure if the fish will want a certain lure.

I tie direct, because I can choose the placement of my knot on the line tie wire loop to impart certain subtle actions if necessary.

I usually use the "Quick snap" type of attachment.

They are strong, and I have not had one open up, or break.

I do tie direct sometimes, but with the super small diameter of fishing lines it is a real Pain in the butt.

Give these a try, you can find them at Fleet Farm, Gander Mountain, Cabellas etc.

Hope this helps,

Wiener

I usually use a very small snap, sometimes I'll tie direct though.

That's the one other thing I don't like about the quicksnaps.  The small wire and small eyelet.  I did have bad experiences with them when they first came out.  Lost the lure, somehow got unsnapped from it.  So I'm always a little leary about it.  My quicksnaps are permanent on lures.  I've also had a lure once worked it's way almost off a splitring somehow.  Don't ask me how the fish did it.  It must have been one super smart fish.  :roflmao:

If you don't want to use a snap, just tie on a good ball bearing swivel about 2 feet up the line.
That should help with the line twist.

Hope this helps,
