Scott has provided us with a spell-check function. Try it- it's not hard.

thanks hali-man. I don't have a degree in english but when I was in school, alot of people on this site would never have gotten past 6th or 7th grade with the way the spelling is. Drives me nuts but I try not to say anything too often. Spell checkers are probably partly to blame.

Let's not forget our members to whom English is a second language!  If you read it phonically then it sounds just like they speak.  I think it adds to the diversity.  ;D

as long as they are from another country they get all the respect I have.If they're from this country??? well that's a different story as I feel english should be the primary language and sign, the second.

My wife calls me an English major, as I'm a bit anal when it comes to grammar.

By training I am an engineer, & a tough lesson for me to learn, which I think applies here, it look at the content of what's being said, not just how it's said.  Some of the most brilliant people I work with can't send a grammatically correct e-mail to save their lives, but they're brilliant, as I'm sure many of the people who post here are.

Look at the content of what's being said; there's a lot of value to be had.

My mom was a teacher. My brothers and I corrected papers for her 4th grade class  throughout our education. Language was shown to us  to be an important part of self presentation.

We played word games every day. She'd pick a word and we would try to spell and use it in a sentence. If we got it right, it was our turn to try to stump her. She failed often, in a now obvious effort to encourage us. I carried on the tradition with my children and both are articulate adults. My daughter is a teacher. My son is an artist and golf course groundskeeper.

Language is a tool to be used.

I am partly to blame when I spelled fettuccine 'fettuchine'. Usually I spell fairly well though.

Now, the word that I notice everyone spells wrong is definitely. Not 'definately','definetely', 'defenately', etc.  Everybody spells that word incorrectly.

But as fat boy posted on mff, as long as the first and last letter of a word are the same, and they have the letters jumbled up in the middle, we can read it because the human mind reads the whole word and not letter by letter.
if anybody from michigan will help me out with the lakes and stuff up here I'd really appreciate it since I'm new to the area.

I would bet my old English teacher, Mr. Fleeson  would have put several red ink marks on the two sentences that you have used at the start of this thread.

Bad English?  What bad English?

Fishin Musician, if there are other things on the internet besides IceShanty (I'll take your word for it), I think we need a .fish along with .com and .net.  That way we could set our browsers to keep the .coms and .nets off our screens.  Then we would not have to look at stuff that's not important.  IceShanty.fish, now that sounds goooooood. ;D ;D
