winch only to move a permanent shack
« on: Nov 21, 2010, 06:58 PM »
Hi guys, this is my first post. In the middle of building my first permanent shack and weighing my options on how to get it onto the ice. has anyone tried to use a hand or electric style winch "bolted" to the ice with some sort of leverage bar? I've read another post about using this method to move a stuck vehicle. I would imagine the tow onto the ice would not be too bad, but not so sure about the spring(there is a 2000 pound tow block on the shoreline of my fishin spot so I would not be using the ice to anchor in the spring but would still be using some form of winch). If anyone has any insight or experience with a setup like this please share.

?? Where are you from? Can't you just pull it out with your vehicle?

Do they plow that part of the river?

the launch has a plowed area, most of the move would be on plowed ice, also the river runs east west at that point so the snow doesn't seem to build up as much.

So, is pushing to your spot out of the question? What type of skis do you have under it?

Just asking, because winching it may take you some time, depending on how far you need to be away from the launch.

How heavy is this thing? I would look for a cheap snowmobile.

Just push it. Get some good skis and you can push it (only if there isn't a ton of snow)

I'm with stumper. I know if someone asked me I would do it. To winch it out make yourself a block of 2x4 and put a eyebolt in the end. Rap a chain around it and screw it down so it wont slip drill a hole in the ice and put the block down holding onto the chain. Hook your winch to the chain and start pulling. Better yet take stumpers idea and pay someone 20 to pull it out for you. Good luck stay safe.
Take a kid fishing, they make great pack mules.
Put the big ones back for another day eat the small ones.
