Forget the big lakes, wasting your time.  Get permission to trap a golf course, gravel pit, or private farm pond.

Streams/rivers are off limits unless you get a permit.  Easy to do, just part of the regs.

Give me a pm,  maybe we can work together and get some more spots scouted out.  I know of a couple along rt 1, and have a few traps out right now that I need to check on tomorrow when I head home.  I'm in Warren.

Maybe he wants to start earning his own keep and not feel like he's mooching.  I would think adam you would atleast give him a few tips on some of your hot spots.  How are the ponds over near you in the meadow or the one down the street from you.  I used to make a killing getting bait out of them when I was a kid,  once I got older and I became not so cute and handsome, I got ran off by a few nasty people that moved into that developement and haven't been back since.  shoot me a PM if you don't want to let that cat out of the bag.

I called about getting a permit last year and the warden for my area said go ahead and trap, as he was the one for my area, he said I didn't need a piece of paper because he already had my name.

This year I call and the (different) warden said no permit needed. Bait trapping is not considered fishing.   8)

I'd hate to find out the hard way that he was wrong though....  :(

Dont snub anything with water in it. I have caught some impressive shinners in some pretty foolish looking puddles.

rest easy, your in the clear. if you are trapping bait for yourself then all you need is your recreational fishing licence. the only time you need a wholesale bait licence is if you were to sell bait to someone else.

I know I did some trapping on some brooks closed to fishing this time of year had to get a permit to trap bait for personal use on closed waters, got the permit for nothing and the guy filled it out to cover all of Litchfield.  I would give IFW headquarters a call and get them to mail you one, might save you a fine
