Depleting battery charge...
« on: Sep 18, 2010, 06:44 PM »
Decided to turn on my flasher and let'er run until she quit, then was going to get a couple of FULL DEEP charges on her... Trouble is, I turned it on over 30hrs ago and it's still spinning!

Depleting a lead acid battery is not a good thing to do.  They are not designed for that.  ood to hear you are getting more than 30 hours though  ;)  I put mine on the charger once a month, for a day, during the off season.

Obviously you have a really good battery.

I would shut it off, give it a hour or two to cool off, then charge it completely.

I hope you had the transducer in a bucket of water or something.   You wouldn't want to screw it up by just letting it sit there an click away.

Hope this helps,

Wiener

Not a good idea to drain your battery dead. Unless you needed something to buy this season. Lead acid batteries don't have a memory like the NiCads. The nickle cadmium batteries started the rumor of draining a battery dead before recharging. This rumor has ruined plenty of good lead acid batteries. You also put lots of wear on your flasher brushes.

I always believed this to be true as well untill I talked to a rep for Marcum when I had trouble with my newly purchased Showdown. He wanted to know if I could hear the transducer and I asked if we should do that out of water and his words  " that old wive's tail???"

Just a point of reference for you... There is a very LARGE difference between an old wife's TAIL, and an old wife's TALE.  ;D
