I was one of those people waiting to get a bear registered by Doug. I made three phone calls: 1) when I shot the bear Sunday night to Troop F (as required by law) 2. Sunday morning to NH F&G Hdq (no answer) and 3. To Lancaster PD requesting permission to butcher my bear prior to inspection because I feared I would lose it due to temperatures.
By law, I can skin the bear before inspection but the carcas must remain fully intact until inspection. I recieved only one phone call back from all 3 calls and that was to advise me that the C/O (which was Doug) would be at my house in 20 minutes because he was checking another bear.
When he got to my house, he told my father and I about the w/e's events and that there were 20 bear killed the night I killed mine and not one C/O was available due to the rescue! While he was with me, his pager went off again and I offered him my phone. He said "it is just going to have to wait because we don't have enough people to make everyone happy!"
